Permanent Makeup: the bad & the beautiful

Who doesn't love a set of gorgeous eyebrows?

My personal favorite: Lauren Bacille. Those brows gave her an amazingly sultry, strong, and at the same time, very feminine appeal.

Needless to say, eyebrows are the framework of the face, and the best way to illuminate the attitude & soul in your eyes. With permanent makeup, people who, in many cases, have not ever really had eyebrows-can. The beauty of this truly lies in the technicians ability to create a natural appealing brow.

In a situation where there isn't hair present on the eyebrow, a tattoo technique called hair stroke, can be used to mimic the look of real hair. The results that can be achieved with this method can be quite stunning. This technique is also used with sparse areas within the brow.

When it comes to Permanent Makeup, gone are the days of stenciled on, harshly drawn lines. This still happens, and I see clients for corrections of this often. There are special cases however, where I will do a soft fully shaded brow, for example when a client already has a lot of eyebrow hair, but desires a slight darkening of their brow. this technique would mimic a shadow effect.

What is most important, is seeking a technician who has a style that suits your taste. All technicians will have a unique style & preference as to what they see fit for shaping & coloring brows. Meeting the technician in person, and reviewing examples if their work is always the best approach.

Skin Care Favorites 2013

12/13/2013

It's that time of year.

Time for reflections, shining up what has worked for us, & clearing out what has not.

Which brings up one of my favorite topics: Skin Care! With a saturated market full of a zillion different options- how do you really ever decide or know what will work best for you? Call it intuitive shopping, but I recommend following your hunch. Whether its pretty packaging that lures you, or simply the pull of what a skin line is promising, follow that hunch!

A lot of people in this world would likely roll their eyes at this, but I am firm believer in magnetism.

I feel that as long as we know what we are *specifically* looking for, we will be attracted (or will simply attract) what we need. I believe that so many of us become victims of specific targeted marketing that prays on our insecurities, simply because we might not know what we are really looking for. We end up feeling like we've spent way too much money with way too little results.

So this year, get clear on your desires for your skin health, and then, let the stars guide you.

Skin Care Favorites of 2013:

For Normal/Non-Problematic Skin:
#1 : KORA Organics
Infused with Noni Juice & Rose Quartz vibrations, this is Miranda Kerr's luxurious development of a healthy, soothing face wash that is not only organic, but truly alive with nutrients and antioxidants. Plus, it smells like an earthy dream.

For Normal/Dry/Oily
Problematic Skin:
#1: Skintactix
Not an organic line, but definitely an effective one. I do love that they use salicylic acid instead of the chemically abusive benzoyl peroxide. I am convinced that the effectiveness of this line comes from the herbal infusion of cinnamon, & the extra boost of white willow bark. The most perfect product for all types of acne prone skin!

For Dry Skin That
Needs Moisture:
#1: Awaken My Senses
I especially love their shea butter on my skin at night - and in the winter, I will even use this daily as well! This is my most suprising skin care favorite - and I was sure that because my skin is sensitive, it would be too heavy of a product. But honestly, it's simply the best. My eyes, cheeks, and lips love this. Best part: it's just Shea Butter. Nothing else.

For Oily Skin That
Needs Balancing:
#1: Juice Beauty
What is so great about Juice Beauty, is the way they use an abundance of lemon juice and extracts in their products (& they are organic! Always a plus). This key ingredient is especially helpful for balancing oily skin. I would recommend this to someone who is simply trying to balance their oily skin, and that doesn't necessarily have a chronic skin issue that they are resolving.

For All Skin!
#1: Lemon Water
Hands down, this is the best way to start from the inside out when it comes to happy, healthy, balanced skin! Squeeze them in your water AND on your skin before washing your face in the morning, then simply sit back & watch the magic happen. Helpful Hint: Organic is always best when it comes to fruits! You can also sometimes find organic not-from-concentrate juice (the kind in the little squeezy lemon) that works well if you are in a crunch.
